If you’re interested in computers,the internet and blogging then read this;
I have my blog running on my own server which is a HP N54L Micro Server which I purchased for £80, it runs Windows Server 2008 R2 which has a MYSQL server and PHP installed for wordpress to work.
To allow people to connect to the website I had to do some port forwarding to the static IP which I had set on the server. I found the whole setup much easier than I thought it would be and I recommend anyone to give it a go!
I had a problem with my IP changing as it wasn’t set to static and to do so it would cost me the price of a business internet connection, to solve this I used a service called www.Dyn.com which is an DNS service which utilizes a program on my laptop, which tells the www.dns.com ‘s servers if my IP changes then adjusts the DNS server entries to point www.Elliottcoe.com to the right place, pretty cool stuff.
